How many quotes should I get?
If you move during peak moving season—summer months or during month end—you may need to request more quotes to find a mover that has available men and equipment. If you can avoid these times, you can get competitive prices with only 3 quotes.

How do I choose a mover?
Without trusted recommendations from friends and family, look for credible affiliations like the AMSA or the BBB. A membership in a National Van Line also indicates an established moving company. Smaller local companies are a good choice for local moves however always check for a local business address. Be cautious with movers that operate from a residence or only have a cell phone number.

Should a company representative come to my house?
You may choose to short list the movers based on price and research, and then meet with representatives from each of these companies. It is a good idea though, to at least meet with your chosen mover so they can review inventory, discuss details and assess any difficulties your move may present.

How accurate will the price be?
Your prices will be as accurate as your inventory. Providing a complete list of items should generate quotes within 10%.

How do I estimate boxes needed until I have packed?
This is difficult and movers understand that initially, it is only a guess. Movers also use formulas to determine the boxes needed based on the quantity of your furniture, so your estimate is only one factor in determining estimated box requirements. Once you have finished your packing, you can always update your inventory with the actual number of boxes and have your quote confirmed.

What if I miss some items on my inventory?
You can save your inventory and update it at any time prior to move day. Movers will charge extra on moving day for furniture items that are not listed on your inventory.

What about small items like kitchen cupboard contents?
These do not need to be inventoried since they will be packed in boxes by moving day.
